1密度是認定木材物理特性、力學特性時的一個重要參數。也許可以說密度是唯一檢驗一塊木材力學性能的重要物理特性，也是質量認定的一項重要指標。木材是由一連串細胞、氣管胞、木質素細胞壁組成的一種生物。氣管細胞像管子，沿著樹莖運輸的液汁，使他們填補養分。木材的密度是一個非常有趣的變量，因為不同木材部位所量測的密度不同。
