目前PLC在國內外已廣泛應用于鋼鐵、石油、化工、電力、建材、機械制造、汽車、輕紡、交通運輸、環保及文化娛樂等各個行業。在運城電廠主要有化學制水、生活污水處理、工業廢水處理、凝結水精處理等。有關PLC的使用情況主要分為如下幾類。

1 開關

開關是最常見的電子元件，功能就是電路的接通和斷開。接通則電流可以通過，反之電流無法通過。在各種電子設備、家用電器中都可以見到開關。 PLC可以方便地實現邏輯控制取代傳統的繼電器。

繼電器是我們生活中常用的一種控制設備，通俗的意義上來說就是開關，在條件滿足的情況下關閉或者開啟。繼電器的開關特性在很多的控制系統尤其是離散的控制系統中得到廣泛的應用。從另一個角度來說，由于為某一個用途設計使用的電子電路，最終或多或少都需要和某一些機械設備相交互，所以繼電器也起到電子設備和機械設備的接口作用。

   電路，實現邏輯控制、順序控制，既可用于單臺設備的控制，也可用于多機群控。如水泵的啟停、閥門的開關、制水系統順控、干除灰系統等。

2 工業過程控制

在工業生產過程當中，存在一些如溫度、壓力、流量、液位和速度等連續變化的量量(即模擬量)，PLC采用相應的A／D和D／A轉換模塊及各種各樣的控制算法程序來處理模擬量，完成閉環控制。PID

PLCC通信含PLC間的通信及PLC與其他智能設備間的通信。隨著工廠自動化網絡的發展，現在的PLC都具有通信接口，通信非常方便。
